Warning, Construction Site!
You probably know this feeling: you have built a huge tower out of building blocks, and the very last stone is still missing at the top. Concentrate! Will your breathtaking architectural masterpiece hold?
If this sounds familiar to you, then you can imagine how the master builders of the great, famous buildings in Trier felt – from the architects under the Romans, the cathedral builders of the medieval churches, the court architects of the magnificent princely palaces to the architects of the fine houses from your great-great-grandmother‘s time.
Trier has an architectural history spanning more than 2000 years. Many of the city’s buildings are even world famous. There are nine structures that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Porta Nigra, the Basilica of Constantine, the Imperial Baths, the Barbary Baths, the Amphitheatre, the Roman Bride, the cathedral, the Church of Our Lady, and the Igel Column. They tell us a lot about life in the past centuries. You are sure to discover some of these among the Lego models!
But how do you actually build a house? Which craftsmen have to help? And can anyone build however they want? In our exhibition, you will learn much about architecture and the art of building – from the past and present. Look around and build along!
We would especially like to thank the Lego-Team for their cooperation and their small buildings with a big history.
What is the oldest building in Trier?
