Build your own city!
Are you allowed to build however you want? Could you for example erect a pyramid next to the Porta Nigra?
It’s not that easy. There are rules which you have to abide by when building. A city is made up of many different people with different interests. People have to be considerate of each other so that everyone enjoys living together.
For example, you can’t build just anywhere. The city says where houses are allowed to stand and where space should be left for parks or playgrounds. Houses often can’t be too tall or built too close to the neighboring house. Otherwise, others won’t get enough light. There are also rules about the architectural style of houses – especially if there are listed buildings nearby. Safety also plays a role. A house must be built in such a way that it isn’t a danger to those living in it or others. Also, traffic is important in the building of a city. It is important to ensure that there are safe routes for pedestrians, cyclists, and cars.
Often, finding a good solution for everyone is not so easy. Several departments in the city work together on this, such as the building authority, the urban planning office, the traffic planning office, and the historic preservation office.
The opinions of the city’s residents are also sought.
So, what should your Trier look like? Here you can build your city.
